Media Blackout at YB Lunch Assembly --
District Sets Up Blockade, Fears Bad Press

Dan Moser is one of the most respected site administrators in the ESUHSD. A man known for personal integrity and dedication, finding Moser hard at work on a Sunday afternoon is not an uncommon sight. In his role as Yerba Buena’s principal, he earned the respect of teachers, parents, and most importantly, students. YB began showing strong signs of success under his leadership, and they had the growth in test scores to prove it. So why did Dr. Esperanza Zendejas move him to Piedmont Hills?

No one knows the real answer to that question. But to say the YB community is furious would be an understatement. According to the Unruly Advocate’s YB correspondents, a riot nearly ensued when Chief of Human Resources Bob Nuñez made the announcement to the staff. But the real surprise came when students heard the news. Enraged, students planned a protest walkout, but a group of teachers (one rumor claims Moser himself) intervened. A peaceful lunchtime assembly took place instead, where students, parents and community members came out in force to honor the man they continue to regard as their principal.

The students who organized this assembly had the wherewithal to contact the major local media. And the district responded by setting up a blockade around the school perimeter, calling in personnel from neighboring schools for support. When the media arrived, they were turned away by district officials, who claimed they were doing so in an effort to ensure student safety.
