THE SLEEPING GIANT AWAKES: THE RETURN OF THE UNRULY ADVOCATEThe Unruly Advocate almost folded. Tired of the politics and infighting, and the departure of foils like Craig Mann and Esperanza Zendejas, the happy crew at the Unruly Advocate hoped to fade into the annals of East Side Union High School District history. The Patricia Martinez-Roach got reelected. While former members of the Advocate have retired (Godspeed, Dirk), others jumped aboard to shed a little light on East Side’s skeleton closet after watching the Nunez Witch Hunt play out in the Mercury News. Don’t get us wrong. We are not Nunez supporters. Our job, at least for the moment, is not to judge his job performance. We saw that the Board of Trustees were engaging in the same ridiculous behavior that led to Martinez-Roach’s censure in ’06. That type of political gamesmanship, in a year where people’s lives and careers are being destroyed by a state that doesn’t give a rat’s ass about public education, needed to be exposed. The Unruly Advocate needed to return. The Advocate lo st sight of its original mission two years ago. The new staff hopes to restore The Advocate to its glory as the best blog in Santa Clara County, by focusing on local education politics and the leaders that undermine school harmony through Machiavellian tactics and totalitarian behavior. We’ll continue to focus on national issues, carry on traditions like “The Kiko Award,” and keep a fire underneath the feet of the East Side Trustees. Why? Rumor has it most of the East Side board will be seeking city or county office in the next election cycle. Herrera has already announced he’s running for city council. The Advocate can at least educate some voters, and provide a little balance to what gets covered in The San Jose Mercury News. |
